The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society presents its opening fall masterworks program Sunday, October 28, 2018, 3:00 PM in UNLV’s Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.

The program will feature the “Dettingen Te Deum” by G. F. Handel, and Joseph Haydn’s “Missa Cellensis in C (Mariazeller-Mass)”. Guest soloists include soprano, Suzanne Russell; contralto, Melissa Sorrentino; tenor, Robert Peterson; and bass baritone, Thomas Hydes.

The “Dettingen Te Deum,” one of Handel’s most brilliant works, is noted for its expression of majesty and reverence. Sung in English, strains of Handel's “Messiah” may even be heard in this famous piece celebrating England’s “Dettingen Victory!” “Missa Cellensis in C (Mariazeller-Mass),” noted for its generous orchestration, is Haydn’s ninth mass and considered the precursor to the composer’s late Masses.

This concert is the first of two masterwork concerts of Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society’s 56th season and marks Dr. Peterson's 51st year as Music Director of SNMAS, Nevada’s distinguished Choral Society and longest running arts organization! This program is sponsored by John E. Tucker and made possible in part by the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community organization.

Admission is $20 for adults; $15 for seniors, disabled, and military; and $10 for students with ID.
